Western and global traditions
FortuNetra offers readings based on astrology and numerology. For the other traditions below, our guides explain where they come from and how they work.
Astrology
Astrology reads meaning into the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets. Western astrology uses the twelve signs of the tropical zodiac, and a natal chart maps the sky at the moment of birth. Our guides cover all 12 signs.
Numerology
Numerology turns dates and names into numbers and reads each number as a set of qualities. The Life Path number, calculated from the date of birth, is its most important number.
Name Numerology
The part of numerology that reads names, using the Pythagorean letter chart to calculate the Destiny, Soul Urge and Personality numbers.
Compatibility
How astrology and numerology compare two people, from Life Path number families and Sun sign elements to the full chart comparison known as synastry.
Star Divination
An overview of the many traditions around the world that read meaning in the stars and planets.
Tarot Reading
Tarot uses a fixed deck of 78 cards, divided into the Major and Minor Arcana. Cards are laid out in a spread, and each position and card is interpreted together.
Rune Reading
Rune reading draws on the letters of the ancient Germanic and Norse runic alphabets, each of which carries a traditional meaning.
Palm Reading
Palmistry reads character from the shape of the hand and its main lines, such as the life, head and heart lines.
Face Reading
Face reading, practised in both Chinese and Western traditions, interprets character from the shape and proportions of facial features.
Crystal Reading
Crystal gazing, or scrying, is the practice of looking into a crystal ball or reflective surface to receive intuitive impressions.
Aura Reading
Aura reading is based on the belief that each person is surrounded by a field of coloured light that reflects their mood and character.
Dream Interpretation
Dream interpretation looks for personal meaning in the symbols and stories of dreams, a practice found in almost every culture.
Past Life Reading
Past life readings explore the belief that the soul has lived before and that earlier lives can shape the present one.
Twin Soul
The twin soul, or twin flame, is the idea of a single soul divided between two people who are drawn to find each other.
Spiritual Reading
A broad term for intuitive readings rooted in spiritual traditions rather than in a fixed calculation or deck.
East Asian traditions
Many popular systems come from China and Japan. FortuNetra does not offer readings in these systems, but our guides introduce each one.
Four Pillars of Destiny (BaZi)
A Chinese system that expresses the year, month, day and hour of birth as four pairs of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, and reads them through the Five Elements.
Chinese Zodiac Signs
The twelve animal signs of the Chinese calendar, from the Rat to the Pig, each linked to a year of birth and a set of traits.
I Ching
The Book of Changes, one of the oldest Chinese classics. A reading produces one of 64 hexagrams, each with its own text and commentary.
Feng Shui
The Chinese practice of arranging buildings and rooms to support the flow of energy, or qi, through a space.
Nine Star Ki
An East Asian system that assigns each birth year to one of nine stars and is often used together with Feng Shui to choose favourable directions and timing.
Sanmei Studies
A system with Chinese roots, developed further in Japan, that reads character and the flow of life from the birth date.
Shukuyo (Lodestar) Astrology
A Japanese system based on the Moon's position among the 27 lunar mansions at birth, known for its focus on relationships.
Zero Gaku
A Japanese system created in the 1960s that reads life in repeating twelve-year cycles, including periods it calls "zero".
Gosei Sanshin
A Japanese birth-date system built on five stars and three kinds of heart, popular in Japan for personality and timing.
Animal Divination
A Japanese personality system that groups people into animal types based on their birth date.
Blood Type Personality
A popular belief in Japan and Korea that links the four blood types to personality. It is widely enjoyed but not supported by scientific evidence.
Lucky Color
The practice, found in several East Asian traditions, of choosing colours associated with good fortune for a person or a period.
Choosing a tradition
Traditions based on your birth date, such as astrology, numerology and Four Pillars, give the same basic result every time you calculate them, and describe long-term patterns. Traditions based on drawing cards or runes give a different result each time, and are usually used for a question about the present moment. If you are new to fortune-telling, starting with your Life Path number and your Sun sign is a simple way in.
